When I first saw her I thought "what is a cheerleader doing, going to a Science Technology Engineering and Math week-long event?"
When we first talked I thought "she's cool, we're pretty different, but pretty cool."
As the week went on I kept thinking that she'd be just a friend. Maybe one of those short-term friends who you hang out with while you're at whatever event you're both at and then you don't really talk again. Maybe one of those in-school friends who you only really talk to in class.
Neither of us expected to find our other half in each other. By the end of the year we were inseparable. We'd spend entire weekends together. We'd babysit together. We'd be designated drivers together. I'd wake up to "get your lazy butt up, get a burrito, and come over" texts, and of course I would do exactly that. We told each other everything, even some things we hadn't even told ourselves. We finished each other's sentences and thoughts. We were invited into each other's families, being introduced as "my other daughter". It didn't matter what we were doing, going to prom or doing homework or sitting asking each other questions from Tumblr or driving around base, it was always fun and comfortable and relaxing. Even though she's in Cali/Italy and I'm in Oregon/Oki, I know that she'll always be there for me and that she's only a call (or facebook message) away.
