We met three years ago in the nerdiest way possible: at a science and engineering camp. The camp was only a week long and at the time we were both in relationships. By the end of the week we felt as if we had known each other for much longer and had made a genuine friendship. But, as many camp-friendships go, we lost touch. I got distracted with my senior year of high school and with my then-boyfriend. Time just passed too quickly and the few times we talked consisted of very short conversations. I figured I'd never see him again considering I was dead set on Oregon State and he was interested in a major that Oregon State didn't offer.
Luckily though, he changed his major and we both ended up at Oregon State. By some random chance, we ended up running into each other one cold day in November. I was leaving my physics class, on my way to chug some coffee and try to get some work done; he was heading to a doctors appointment after injuring himself during a rugby match. Somehow I heard him over my music and we stood around for a bit, ending the conversation with a promise to reconnect. Much to my surprise, we actually ended up talking that evening.
Similar to when we first met, there were other people in our lives (well my life) and we reconnected as friends. We began to hang out more, doing homework together and killing time watching TV. Eventually my relationship ended we started dating and spending more time getting closer. Finally, three years later, we got the chance to start a relationship with each other.
*edit*
Unfortunately the relationship was short lived...I take full credit for it and admit I got so caught up in finally having a chance to be together that I didn't take time to move on from my previous relationship, as I should have.
Although things ended on negative terms, I still hope that someday we'll be able to be close again. This guy is someone who I could tell anything to, who I could talk about anything with, and who I truly felt comfortable with.
